The government have announced new rules surrounding face masks, making them mandatory in shops in England from 24th July…
If you don’t already require customers in your boutique to wear face coverings, this is set to change from next week. From 24th July the wearing of face masks will be compulsory in shops and supermarkets, with fines of up to £100 for anyone who doesn’t comply (reduced to £50 if people pay within 14 days). This will be enforced by the police rather than shop owners, you will be pleased to hear!
Shop workers will be encouraged to prompt customers to wear masks, but do not have to enforce it.
The mandatory use of face coverings in shops in Scotland has been in place since 10th July, while there are still no such rules in Wales and Northern Ireland.
Clarity provided by the new guidelines will be welcomed by many shop owners wanting to keep themselves and their customers as safe as possible. We’d be interested to hear what the rules are in your boutique already surrounding face coverings – have you had any issues with customers refusing to follow them?
